Coloring your hair allows you to change the color and move away from the natural color. Hair coloring can also be used to revive a natural hair color or to cover white hair.

Hair pigments come from melanin. Two types of melanin are present in the hair:

  • phaeomelanin whose color varies from yellow to red an

  • eumelanin which goes from red-brown to dark black.

It is the mixing and dosing of these two different melanin that determine the color of your hair.

How to choose its color

Whether you want a color without ammonia, organic, vegetable or a chestnut, caramel or blond color , it is important to take into consideration:

Your complexion: The color of your skin, pale, pink, orange, matte or dark influences much the choice of your coloration color. It is inadvisable to choose a shade too close to your skin color. And the more pale your complexion, the more you will have to choose a light color. The ideal is to have both a contrast and continuity between the color of your skin and that of your hair.

The color of your eyes: The eyes are probably your most beautiful seduction asset. It is therefore important to take this into account when changing colors. A coloring of red hair, for example, will bring out green or blue eyes.

White or gray hair: to choose the color that suits us, it is important to know the proportion of white or gray hair that we have. If they are few (less than 30%), you should opt for something temporary, and therefore, much softer. This will harmonize your hair color. On the other hand, if the number of white or gray hair is much, it will then be necessary to go for the permanent color which is more covering.

How to make hair coloring

For your short hair or long hair, your curly hair or straight hair, the method to follow to change hair color is the same. The hairdresser brings his or her equipment:

The coloring product

The comb

Pliers

A brush

Gloves

A towel

Then he or she follows the following steps:

Apply the color on the roots: the hairdresser begins by detangling your hair with a comb and separates all of your hair into 4 equal parts. It then begins the application of the product from the back of the head from top to bottom, proceeding by small separations of wicks as and when. The same process is repeated for the top of the head starting with the middle line. And finally the hairdresser finishes the application by the small hair that surround the forehead because they are very sensitive and let rest the indicated time.

To lengthen the color on the tips: After about fifteen minutes of pause, the barber combs your hair backwards with a big comb and applies with the brush the color on all the hair. It insists to the ends and kneads your hair to facilitate the impregnation of the coloring. He then ties your hair and lets rest the necessary time depending on the color you want to get.

Rinsing: Rinsing is an important step in maintaining color over time. A color does not rinse directly with water. We must start by emulsifying by rubbing your hair on both sides of the skull, then add water as and when. Finally comes the total rinse by bringing all the water well backwards. Your hairdresser keeps the same gestures as long as the running water remains colored and finishes with shampoo.

Hair coloring is a service that requires great technique and know-how. From application to rinsing, every detail counts. We give you the opportunity to book a qualified hairdresser for a quality home coloring .

The different types of coloration

There are three types of hair coloring, with the main difference being holding time:

Permanent coloring: It is a durable hair dye that will not fade after washing with shampoo. Thanks to the coloring, it is possible to have several renderings to color the hair in lighter or darker, to bring reflections to your hair, to totally change hair color or to rejuvenate your hair by totally covering the white hair. It is here to recolor the hair fiber. It is also possible to perform a tonal coloring permanent, that is to say the same color as the natural color. This method allows to revive the natural color. If you want a color that has nothing to do with your natural color, your hairdresser will first proceed to a hair discoloration.

Temporary (or semi-permanent) staining: Temporary colouring has the same function as permanent colouring. However, the choice of color should be close to the natural color or slightly darker. It is effective in that it allows to test a color before doing it permanently. The temporary coloring is not irreversible and fades after some shampoos (usually ten). There are also natural colors such as henna that covers the hair.

Ephemeral coloring: It is a color that will not be very far from your basic color. It is usually done when you want to adopt a new look for a special occasion. The ephemeral coloration is removed from the first shampoo.

In conclusion, once a hair color has been achieved, it is essential to use only shampoos and treatments specifically designed for the colored hair. These do not contain sulphates, these agents that have the effect of erasing the color while drying the hair.
